The Key to Freelance Success: Passion
I’ve been on a non-stop research binge lately, working tirelessly on improving and revamping all aspects of my freelance web design business. Here’s a short list of things I’ve been doing:
- Plowing through the Web Design Business Kit
- Ordered a handful of marketing books from Amazon
- Consuming my daily fix of blog feeds (mostly freelancing, web design, small business related stuff)
- Immersing myself in online forums where I’m sharing ideas with fellow web designers and small business owners
- Re-working the logo for CasJam Media (no longer named “CasJam Studio”)
- Planning a fresh redesign & marketing plan for www.casjam.com
- Planning and building my e-newsletter list & content
- Seeking out meetup groups and events where I can meet and network with others in the industry.
Somehow between all of this, I’m squeezing in time to work on my client projects! It’s a tiring effort. Some would call me a workaholic. Some would call me obsessed with being hyper-productive.
I call it working with passion.
It’s the key ingredient to success as a freelancer or small business. You have to love it. You have to want to work, and keep working through those after-hours.
Freelancing gives you the freedom to work whenever & wherever you want. But I often find that I don’t really have a choice in the matter. Before I can plan my work and leisure time for the day, I’m already knee deep in developing ideas, tweaking my projects, and driving toward the next milestone.
I can’t help it. I need to keep to working and striving to meet all of my goals for my business and my career. As a freelancer and owner of my own business, it’s all in my hands. It’s up to me to make it happen. That’s what I love about freelancing.
Draw on your passion to drive the ship forward. It’s the key to freelance success.
