Introducing The FreelanceJam Web Show
I’m excited to let you know about a project that has been brewing for past few weeks: It’s a new web show called FreelanceJam, hosted by myself and Dave Yankowiak. The one-liner:
The show for independent professionals who build the web.
Here are some facts about what’s in store:
- The video broadcast will be shown live, two evenings per month.
- The recording will also be available as an iTunes podcast.
- We’ll invite a different guest on for every show.
- Music will play a significant part in the production.
- Freelancing, running a business and web design are the jumping off points, but we’ll probably touch on many different topics.
Starting a podcast is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now. I’ve been inspired by several really awesome web shows, including The Big Web Show (and other 5by5 shows), Mixergy, Boagworld, FreelanceSwitch Podcast (discontinued), WP Weekly, Think Vitamin Radio, 37signals Podcast, and others. For someone like me, who for the most part works alone in my home office, watching and listening to great conversations about my industry helps to keep the wheels turning.
I’ve been dabbling in video content creation over the past few months with three interviews (1, 2, 3) posted here on the blog. These experiments have served as warmups, if you will, which have helped me become more comfortable on camera, hosting an interview, etc. I still have a long way to go in this regard, but it’s a fun journey since it’s something completely new for me. But I didn’t want to be the sole host for this new web show.
I knew that finding a co-host and partner in the show’s creation would make for a much better product. So just before the new year, I reached out to my friend Dave Yankowiak (@DaveYank, blog, Lift Development), a fellow freelancer, web designer, and blogger. We had previously interviewed eachother on our respective blogs (here and here), so there is already some on-screen chemistry to build on. I’m thrilled with the progress we’ve made already just in planning the show and can’t wait to go live later this month.
